Coronation Medal 1911; Volunteer Force Long Service Medal EVIIR (3229 PTE. H. PETRIE. 3/V.B.RL.HDRS.)

H Petrie was awarded the Volunteer Force Long Service Medal on 1 August 1909 as a member of the 3rd Volunteer Battalion of the Black Watch (Royal Highlanders)

The Dundee Courier of 10 August 1909 carried an article wherein he is named as having received the volunteer long service medal with the 3rd battalion at which point he was a Sergeant. Having moved to Derbyshire he next appears in the Derbyshire Advertiser of 1 September 1911 wherein it is mentioned that QMS H Petrie has been awarded the Coronation Medal, this confirmed by the 1911 Coronation Roll awarded to 2 Qr:Mr:Sgt: H Petrie 5th Sherwood Foresters

Taking an active interest in politics he is next heard of in the Derby Advertiser of 3 June 1922 - the article, dealing with the vacant Friar Gate seat on the council read, in part, thus:

"The two candidates who have intimated their intention of contesting the seat are Messrs. H. Petrie (Municipal Association) and John Cobb (Labour). Mr Petrie who has been a Post office employee and and who has been chairman of the local branch of the Postal and Telegraph Clerks Association has always been keenly interested in public life. For 33 years he has been closely connected with the local Volunteers and Territorials, and he saw much active service with the 46th Division during the Great War. He possesses the Volunteer Long Service Medal, the King's Coronation Medal and the 1915 Star."

He died in Derby in 1942
