R.N.); 1939-45 Star; Atlantic Star clasp France & Germany; Africa Star clasp North Africa 1942-43; Italy Star; War Medal 1939-45; Naval LSGCM GVR (J.10326. J.S. CLARKE. P.O. H.M.S. WALRUS) - the WWI trio has been polished on the obverse slightly affecting the detail. The LSGCM has several edge knocks but all impressions are clearly visible.

John Smith Clarke was born in Plymouth, Devon in 1894. He joined the Royal Navy on 25.12.1912 and served aboard Cumberland and Bellona in WWI. He was awarded the Long Service & Good Conduct Medal in 1928 whilst aboard Walrus. He was re-engaged for WWII with no. D/JX.144745 seeing extensive service in the Pacific and the Mediterranean and was additionally awarded the France & Germany and North Africa 1942-43 clasps to his medals. In recognition of his services the King granted him the British Empire Medal LG 1 January 1942.
