John Cayley Wickham was born in Willesden, Middlesex in 1914. He came from a military family and joined the Equipment Branch of the RAF, being commissioned as a Pilot Officer in 1939. He was promoted from Squadron Leader to Acting Wing Commander on 1 January 1945 which promotion became permanent on 1 January 1951. He was awarded the OBE in the 1945. He served in Malay as a Wing Commander earning the GSM with Malaya clasp and was promoted to Air Commodore. His OBE was upgraded to a CBE on 14 June 1969.
Following his retirement, Wickham went to live in Wiltshire where he passed away on 13 Jan 1999 at Steeple Langford, Wiltshire.
