Mrs Helen Hobson awarded MBE in the New Year Honours List 1.1.1953 Chairman, Women's Section, Northern Ireland Area of the British Legion (Belfast Branch). She was also a Welfare Officer in District No.4 of Civil Defence.
She was the wife of Captain R.J. Hobson, Principal of Hemsworth Square Senior School. In 1955 she laid a wreath, together with President Eisenhower, at the shrine to the War dead in the USA at the Cathedral of the Pines in New Hampshire whilst on a five month visit to that country.
