George Neilson served with the Royal Navy in WWII, earning the Atlantic, Africa, Burma and France & Germany Stars and clasps . He was the Coastguard District Officer based in Falmouth and at Holyhead on the Clyde. He was awarded the RSPCA medal for Animal Life Saving in 1971.
His LSGCM was awarded to him on 6 November 1952 and a M.B.E in the LG of 31 December 1981 whilst District Controller, Clyde District, H.M. Coastguard, Department of Trade.
Sold with copied newspaper articles charting Neilson's Coastguard career - he was a highly efficient and well liked officer.
