George Douglas Tonks was born in Birmingham in 1897. He enlisted with the Hawke Battalion of the R.N.V.R. on 8.11.1915 and was sent to France where he was Wounded in Action (Gun Shot Wound) on 28.9.1918. He was awarded the Military Medal for Bravery in the Field per LG 11.2.1919
According to the 1939 Register Tonks was a Grave Digger and Cemetery Sexton living at 7/26 St Mark's Street Birmingham.
He passed away in Birmingham in 1960.
