Capt Howard Sims Ganderton Born Aston, Birmingham 17.11.1890 1/3 Devon Works Co R.E. Served Balkans Egypt & Palestine 9.11.1915

In 1914 he was a member of the Devonshire Territorials and on the outbreak of war enlisted and served in command of the 569 (Devon) A.T. Company, Royal Engineers in Gallipoli, Egypt and Palestine. 

He was awarded the Kings 1935 Silver Jubilee Medal as the County Surveyor, Wilts County Council.

According to the 1939 Register he was living at Elbury, Leigh Road, Bradford-on-Avon and was the L.G.U. County Surveyor. During WWII his department (he was the County Surveyor for Wiltshire), carried out over £1 000 000 worth of road work for the Ministry of Transport, as agents for service departments, and it mainly in recognition of his work during this period that he was awarded the O.B.E. in 1949.

He was awarded the 1953 QEII Coronation Medal as the Surveyor, Wilts County Council.

He passed away 29.9.1954 in Trowbridge, Wiltshire.
