Military Cross GVR reverse engraved CAPTAIN F.A. LOTT 1st Bn. Welch Regt attd. M.G.C.; 1914-15 Star (1778 PTE. F.A. LOTT. 28-LOND.R.); British War Medal (MAJOR F.A. LOTT.); Victory Medal (MAJOR F.A. LOTT.) - the MC in original worn case of issue with original investiture invitation to Buckingham Palace and other documents including a large frame of the Army Order granting the award of his MC.
Francis Albert Lott was born in Hackney London in 1886. He enlisted for service in WWI with the 28 London Regiment and was sent to France with them on 6.12.1914. He was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Welch Regiment and was awarded the Military Cross for gallantry in the last week of the war whilst seconded to the 32nd battalion of the Machine Gun Corps. The award of the MC appeared in the LG of 9.12.1919.The citation read:
Gazette No. 31680. M.C. "He has been awarded the Military Cross. For conspicuous courage and devotion to duty at the crossing of the Oise-Sambre Canal near Ors on 4th November, 1918. He carried out personal reconnaissance and pushed his guns boldly forward before the attack; during the attack he opened an intense fire on enemy machine guns and swept the points from which the bridging parties could be fired on. This made it possible for the canal to be bridged very quickly."
According to the 1939 Register Lott was a Bank Manager living at 83 Bradbourne Park Road, Seven Oaks, Kent. He died on Christmas Day 1953 in Tonbridge, Kent.
