Cuthbert Coulson was born in Hartlepool, Durham in 1881. He was Killed aboard SS Magdalena when torpedoed & sunk by a U-Boat near Iceland on 18.9.1940.

Cuthbert Coulson was born in Hartlepool, Durham in 1881. Having served in the Merchant Navy in WWI, Coulson continued his career with them as a Chief Engineer. He was aboard SS Magdalena when she was torpedoed and sunk by U-Boat U-48 (Bleichrodt), in the Atlantic south of Iceland on 18.9.1940, while on a voyage from St. John's, Newfoundland to Holyhead and Liverpool via Sydney with a cargo of 4600 tons of iron ore. She was part of convoy SC 3 comprising 47 ships. The Master, Captain Frederick Allen, crew of 29 and 1 gunner were lost to the deep.

According to the 1939 Register he was a Marine Engineer living in Hartlepool, Durham.
