Stanley Edward Warren was born in Kettering, Northants in 1909.  He attested  for service in WWII with the 2nd Regiment, RHA in 1941 and was posted to North Africa where he saw service with the 8th Army who were heavily involved in Tobruk and at El Alamein. He was awarded the Military Medal for action around the Knightbridge Box North Africa in the LG of 24.9.1942 - the MM is an official Duplicate issue.

The recommendation for his award read thus:

"After the enemy had attacked the KNIGHTSBRIDGE BOX from the SW, on 6 June 1942, they established a large number of machine gun posts in the derelict on and just behind our minefield. It was necessary to send an OP to the Guards Infantry position. Bdr. Warren laid the line single handed under very heavy machine gun fire and sniping. The line was cut on several occasions by shell fire and he made three visits to the OP on the 6th June 1942 and four visits on the 7th June 42. He went alone on all occasions and it was through his efforts in keeping the line through that the OP was able to destroy and neutralise many machine gun posts and A/Tank guns in that area."

He later went on to see action in North West Europe.

Warren's medals were posted to him on 27 June 1946 to: Mr S.E. Warren (MM), Church Street, Woodford, Kettering, Northants. He passed away in Oundle and Thrapston, Northamptonshire in March 1991.
