Awarded for the campaign against Tippoo Sultan. The medal was awarded in 1808 in a number of metals including Gold, Silver, Silver-gilt, bronze and pewter.
The medal was issued without suspension although many were adapted by their recipients and worn from a buff/gold coloured ribbon.
The medal depicts the British Lion defeating the Tiger of Mysore (Tippoo Sultan) with the inscription in Arabic reading "The Lion of God is the Conqueror".
