Awarded to the Army of India Medal 1799-1826.
This was the first of Major General Arthur Wellesley's great victories. With around 4000 troops he routed the Rajah of Berar's forces, which amounted to over 50,000, on 23rd September 1803.
The 19th Light Dragoons, Madras Cavalry, Bombay Artillery, Madra Cavalry, Madras Pioneers, 74th and 78th Foot and the Madra Native Infantry took part in the battle.
Approximately 85 clasps were awarded to Europeans.
