In September 1813, the Americans again decided to capture Montreal on the St Lawrence River which is joined by the River Chateauguay.
On 26th October 1813 a small force of Canadian Militia fought General Wade Hampton in an inconclusive battle, Hampton however fell back on Plattsburg.
