Napoleon, following his victory at Austerlitz, deposed the King of Naples and appointed his brother, Joseph, King.
As a result of local opposition, Joseph sent a French army into Calabria and it was here that a British expedition, under General John Stuart, landed in support of the Guerrilas. He routed the French with a fierce bayonet assault.
The French lost over 2,000 men while the British losses stood at 1 officer, 44 men killed. 11 officers and 271 men wounded.
