Following the capture of Badajoz and Ciudad Rodrigo, Wellington turned to Northern Spain with his army consisting of British, Portuguese and Spanish forces. he faced the French army under Marshal Marmont at Salamanca on 22nd July 1812. Wellingtons army were victorious and he was created a Marquis and granted a bounty of £400,000
