Authorised on 1st June 1889 for service between 3rd October and 9th November 1888.
Awarded to the Hazara Field Force under the command of Major General J.W.McQueen CB, ADC for the expedition undertaken against the Black Mountain tribes such as the Hassanzais, Akazais and Chagarzais.
The initials cause of the troubles was the murders of Major L. Battye and Captain H.B.Urmiston and five sepoys who were surveying the territory occupied by the Akazais.
