An extremely rare award. The Empire Gallantry Medal with Laurel branch, and first type ribbon, was only awarded between 1933 and September 1937 when the ribbon was changed. A total of 130 Empire Gallantry Medals were awarded, 64 Civil, 62 Military and 4 Honorary. Under the terms of the Royal Warrant instituting the George Cross holders of the EGM were to exchange their medal for a George Cross. There were exceptions, 4 EGMs were awarded posthumously and under the terms of the GC could not be exchanged, neither could the 4 Honorary awards to foreigners. In total 112 EGMs were exchanged, 8 were not eligible for exchange leaving 10 which were never exchanged. The Royal Warrant included provision for a second award bar but none was ever awarded. This is a fine quality replica complete with swivelling suspension.
