The eligibility criteria are defined as follows: (a) Officers have completed 5 years’ service since 25 February 2009 (date inclusive) i.e. the date that the threat level was raised to ‘severe’; or b) As a result of an injury or disability sustained in the execution of duty on or after 25 February 2009, officers have: Died or been required to resign; and the injury or disability was a direct consequence of the unique security situation prevailing in Northern Ireland; and ass a consequence, failed to complete the qualifying service requirement as set out in point (a) above. (c) When the above criteria are met, any posthumous award will be made to the late officer and not to the next of kin.
