This is the second type miniature, introduced in 1936. The three grades utilise the same miniature.
This is manufactured in sterling silver and features the same vitreous enamels used on the full size awards.
No more than 27 may hold the grade of GBE in the Military Division, of which 25 must be members of the UK Armed Forces and 2 from Commonwealth countries.
No more than 215 may hold the grade of KBE in the Military Division, of which 175 must be members of the UK Armed Forces.
No more than 1,700 may hold the grade of CBE in the Military Division, of which 1440 must be members of the UK Armed Forces.
Certain operational awards are classed as 'additional' and do not form part of the annual allocation. This is noted in the London Gazette announcing any award.

This award should only be worn in miniature if the holder has been awarded other medals. It should not be warn as a single miniature, the holder should wear the full size medal.
