George Alfred Arms was born in London in 1915. He enlisted with the Royal Navy on 22.6.1940 seeing service at Europa, a shore establishment and aboard the Yacht 'Alouette' (St Thelmo) which had been used as a small boat for the evacuation of Dunkirk in June 1940. Arms was awarded the Minesweeping Badge on 15 March 1944.
An assessment completed in his regard on 31 December 1944 stated that he, "Possesses power of command in a marked degree. Has shown resource and initiative in surveying & M/S operations while in command of yacht Alouette II, and by leadership has set a good example to his crew."
Pre-war, like his father, he was a Waterman on the Thames and was made a Freeman of this august body on 10 October 1939.
According to the 1939 Register he was a Publican living at 12 Addison Avenue, Kensington, London. He passed away in Gravesend, Kent in March 1982 and is buried in the family grave, St Andrew's churchyard, Ashington, Kent
