Clarke served with in the Staff & Personnel Support in Northern Ireland and Iraq. In order to qualify for the Accumulated Campaign Service Medal, instituted in January 1994, he needed to be a holder of the General Service Medal (1962) who had completed 36 months (1,080 days) of accumulated campaign service. He met this qualification with his GSM Northern Ireland clasp.
