Isaac Hall was born in Newcastle in 1879. His service papers contain an interesting comment: - "Former Service in the Imperial Germany Volunteer Force." He enlisted with the Durham Light Infantry on 1 April 1901 but does not appear to have seen any foreign service. His service towards limited engagement was reckoned from 1 April 1908 and he was embodied for WWI on 5 August 1914, serving in France from 20 April 1915. He rose to the rank of WO Class II - Company Sergeant Major and saw additional service with the West Yorkshire Regiment with no. 328002.
He was awarded the Military Medal in the LG of 6 January 1917
He was reported Wounded in Action on 20 April 1918 and was discharged in March 1920 only to re-enlist with the Territorial Force on 10 June 1920. He continued to extend his service with the TF, qualifying for the Territorial Efficiency Medal and seldom seen bar. Hall was a Coal Miner (Hewer) living at 3 Thornton Street, Newfield, Newcastle.
