Adam Findlay was born in Banff, Scotland in 1894. He served with 156 Field Company, RE in WWI and was sent to France on 19 December 1915 where he was reported Wounded in Action on 31 December 1917. He was awarded the Military Medal for bravery in the field in the London Gazette of 13.3.1918.

The war over, he re-enlisted on 16 March 1919 and was part of the Army of the Black Sea the following year. He continued on with the Royal Engineers and was commissioned a Lieutenant and Quartermaster in the London Gazette of 2 May 1941. He rose to the rank of Major and took his discharge on 13 March 1946

Retiring to Banff, he died there on 23 October 1968.
