George W Ede served with the 5th Royal Surrey Regiment in Mesopotamia from 29 October 1914. He was discharged on 1.3.1919 and awarded the Territorial Efficiency Medal in 1920

The 5th battalion "Queens" Royal West Surrey Regiment was posted to India on 14 October 1914, remaining there until December 1915 when they moved to Mesopotamia, where they remained throughout the war. From December 1914 – January 1915 they were with the Lucknow Brigade, 8th (Lucknow) Division. They transferred in April 1915 to Allahabad Brigade in same Division and, in November 1915 transferred to 12th Brigade in 12th Indian Division. They transferred in April 1915 to Allahabad Brigade in same Division and, in November 1915 transferred to 12th Brigade in 12th Indian Division.
