Frederick Charles Ernest Smith of the The Queens Regiment was born in Guildford, Surrey in 1895. He enlisted in 1912 and was posted to India. On the outbreak of WWI he was sent to Mesopotamia from Bombay on 2 December 1915, seeing service in Basrah and Madhij. He was hospitalised with Sandfly Fever in August 1918.
Smith's UK address was Laurel Cottage, Rupert Road, Guildford. He was discharged on 2.6.1919 and awarded the Territorial Force Efficiency Medal in 1920.
According to the 1921 census he was a Bottling Machinery Fitter living at 49 the Oval Guildford, Portsea.
According to the 1939 Register he was a Brewery Manager living at 49 The Chase, Guildford (most likely the same address as that of 1921)
He died in Guildford on 31 May 1950.
