Alfred Anthony Frederick Janes was born in Cardiff on 2 December 1914. He served with the Royal Navy in WWII as a Chief Air Fitter Mechanic and was awarded the British Empire Medal in the New Year Honours LG of of 1 January 1944 - as PO Air Mechanic. He was further awarded the LSGCM 1951 whilst stationed aboard HMS Condor.
He died in Glamorgan in January 2004.
