Percival Charles Hayward was born in Stockwell, London in 1877. A late joiner, he enlisted with the Royal Navy on 4.2.1915 having been a Servant in Scotland in 1901 during the Anglo Boer War and an Engine Fitter living at 27 Mill Hill Road, Acton, London in 1911.

He was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal for the role he played in the Belgian Coast operations between 22.8-19.11.1915 whilst aboard Prince Eugene. The Belgian Coast operations were primarily focused on bombardment of German positions and attempting to disrupt their coastal operations. This involved monitors like HMS Lord Clive and their supporting fleet, including destroyers, minesweepers, and seaplane carriers. The operations aimed to counter German naval activity and support the broader Allied efforts on the Western Front.

He died in Surrey in March 1936
