James Barclay was born in Lanarkshire in 1867. He attested for service with the Scottish Rifles in 1885 and saw service in South Africa during the Anglo Boer War from 20 February 1900 until after peace was declared on 31 May 1902. He was present at the battle of Laing's Nek - Buller's final push to get the Boers out of Natal in May 1900. He was discharged after 12 years service with the Colours/Reserve.
J.S. Barclay, his son, moved to East Africa before the commencement of WWI and saw service with the East African Medical Supplies unit as an Orderly, rising to the rank of WO CL2 before discharge. He also served in WWII, according to the block number system, his no. 110658 was allocated to the 6th Mounted Commando Regiment.
Medals are in good condition unless otherwise indicated. Sold with some copied research iro the father.
