Medals to two brothers from Cuckfield in Sussex- Henry was Wounded in Action and then Killed in Action whilst Fred was Wounded in Action but survived the war.

Henry Thomas Knapp was born in Staplefield, Sussex in 1873 (ancestry sources state 1897) From Cuckfield, he served with the 1/4 Bn Royal Sussex Regt in France and was twice reported WIA - on 4.1.1918 & 20.4.1918 - he was Killed in Action on 23.7.1918 and is remembered on the Raperie British Cemetery in Villemontoire. Henry's entry in the book Cuckfield Remembered by Shirley Bond (page 153) recalls that he was the son of Mr W G Knapp of 60 School House, Borde Hill, Cuckfield. He enlisted in Haywards Heath into the 1/4 battalion of the Royal Sussex Regiment, 34th New Army Division with no. 200853 and was part of the Expeditionary Force, serving in Egypt and Palestine before being posted to France. He was twice Wounded.

Frederick Albert Knapp was born in Cuckfield in 1898. He served with the 9th battalion, Norfolk Regiment and was reported to have been Wounded in Action on 8 August 1918 and again on 18 November 1918. Having survived the war he passed away in Cuckfield in 1956.
