Thomas Henry Cranmer was born in Aberdare, Glamorganshire in 1877. He joined the Royal Navy in 1895 and saw action that same year at Brass River in Africa and in Benin 1895-97 aboard the Barossa. He was also part of the M'weli Expedition. He was present at the tidying up operations after the devastating Messina Earthquake of 1908 and went on to served in WWI aboard HMS Tiger.
All of the above are confirmed in the original parchment of service. He was demobilised in 1919 and was awarded the Navy LSGCM in the same year.
According to the 1939 Register he was a Retired Navy Pensioner living at 1 Hughes Crescent, Chepstow. He died in Chepstow in 1954.
