Philip Arthur Percival Webberley was born on Portsea Island, Hants in 1900 and was mustered as a Bugler when he attested for service with the RAMC at the age of 15 in WWI, serving in France from 21 February 1915. Intending to make a career out of the Army he rose through the ranks and was commissioned a Lt and QM in 1939. He was invalided from France later seeing action in Burma in 1942. In 1943 he was awarded the MBE in the Birthday Honours whilst Captain & Quartermaster, RAMC. He was promoted to Major (Quartermaster) in 1948 having been acting in that capacity since 1941. He continued on after the war and was Mentioned in Dispatches for service in Malaya in 1950. Webberley was an active member of St John Ambulance and was rewarded with the Serving Brother award in June 1952. He retried on account of disability on 2 May 1953. By 1962 he was almost completely blind.

His inter-war service included stretches in Egypt and Turkey. He died in Hampshire in 1969.
