VICTORY.); Naval Meritorious Service Medal GVR (345765 F.H. STEVENS. VICT. C.P.O. "EUROPA" AGEAN 1918) - with original M.B.E. case of issue and a quantity of ephemera including original photographs, leather gloves, cap, certificates and documents and both left and right gold bullion shoulder epaulettes.

Francis Henry Stevens was born in Portsmouth, Hampshire in 1888. He joined the Royal Navy from the Royal Hospital School, Greenwich in 1902, serving with the Victualling Branch where he gained promotion to warrant rank in 1926. He retired as a Paymaster Lieutenant in 1938 but, with the outbreak of WWII he was recalled serving as Accountant Officer at the Patrol Service Central Depot, Lowestoft until 1946.

He was awarded the Naval Meritorious Service Medal for his service in HMS Europa at Madras at the end of WWI and was decorated with the M.B.E. by King George VI in 1937.

In private life Stevens took an active part for many years in the affairs of the Independent Order of Oddfellows, being a member of the Royal Naval Lodge of which his father had been a pioneer member.

He died in Portsmouth on 14 December 1958.
