Charles Henry Dunkley was born in Wolverhampton in 1891. He attested with the Royal Engineers and was sent to France on 4.9.16. He was commissioned an officer on 1.7.1917 and was Mentioned in Dispatches on 11.12.1917 for gallant services in France. He was awarded the Military Cross in the 1918 New Years Honours list.
He saw service with the South Stafford's in WWII as a Major with his War Medal 1939-45 being sent to him on 3 January 1948 to Mill End House Salwarpe near Droitwitch
