John Lion Maw was born in Lambeth, London in 1888. He joined the Royal Navy in 1906 and served throughout WWI He was 2 x Mentioned in Dispatches - in 1917 & 1918 - the latter for services in Minelaying Vessels between the 1st January and the 30th June 1918. He was transferred to the RFR in 1919 awarded the LSGCM to them and was awarded a Naval Meritorious Service Medal for services in Minelaying Vessels in 1918 aboard the Angora.
According to the 1939 Register he was living at 23 Heathside Road, Manchester and was a Civil Servant (Foreman) in His Majesty's Office of Works (LG 13 January 1939). He was to see service with the RN in WWII.
He died in Hounslow. London in 1981.
