Harold George Le Tissier Gange was born in Plympton, Devon in 1911.He attested into the Royal Engineers as a Boy Trumpeter in 1925 and joined the Regular Army in 1930 when he turned 18. He trained as a Plumper and Gas Fitter with 59 Field Company, joining "G" Depot at Chatham in 1933.

In 1938 he was posted to 56th Field Company and then to 4th Fortress Company. He went to Gibraltar with 1st Fortress Company in 1939 six months before the outbreak of WWII and remained there until returning to the UK in October 1942 with the rank of Company Sergeant Major. He remained in the UK from then on. His overseas service did not qualify him for any campaign stars.

After WWII he stayed on with the RE until retiring in 1951 in the post of Corporal Storekeeper. He was awarded his LSGCM with Gratuity in 1949 and his MSM in December 1951.

Broken hearted, he took his own life on 22 June 1980 at his home 479 Maidstone Road, Rochester at the age of 69 after his second wife had left him and he was unable to effect a reconciliation with her.
