James Dalley was born in Pontypridd, Glamorgan, Wales in 1891. He served in France with the Royal Field Artillery and was admitted to No. 2 General Hospital, Le Havre, suffering with neurasthenia (“shell shock”) on 25 August 1917. He was discharged from the army on 18 March 1918 at which point his address was 3 Oaklea Terrace. Pennifer Road, Penygraig. This changed to 19 Wood Street, The Forest at some point whilst he was receiving a disability pension.

At the time of the 1939 Register was compiled, he was described as a general labourer and auxiliary fireman in the Hayes Fire Service detachment, living at No. 25, Commonwealth Avenue, Hillingdon, West London.

He died in Uxbridge, Middlesex in 1950
