Charles William Crowne was born in London in 1890. He served with both the Middlesex Regiment and The Buffs. He was posted to France on 18 January 1915 and was Wounded in Action there - Gunshot Wound to the right leg - on 12.10.1915. He later served with the Nigerian Regiment as part of the West African Field Force from 14 January 1918 until 21 March 1918. He transferred to the Buffs, his LSGCM being issued off their roll on 20 June 1928.
According to the 1939 Register he was living at Hamilton Hotel, Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire, Wales and was a Clerk at the Naval Depot.
He died in Worthing, Sussex on 7 November 1969
