Oakleaf (MAJOR L.H.TUDOR) - sold with two original photographs, one of the recipient after being invested with the OBE at Buckingham Palace and the other with fellow SWB officers in 1919.
Lechmere Howell Tudor was born in Hampstead in 1876. He attended Bedford Grammar School. He served with the 2nd battalion South Wales Borderers in South Africa from 14.1.1900 to 14.7.1902 and was present on operations in the Orange Free State February to May 1900, including actions at Karee Siding, Vet River (5 & 6 May) and Zand River. This was followed, as the army moved northwards towards the Transvaal in May and June 1900, with actions near Johannesburg and the west of Pretoria from August to 29 November 1900. He was on continuing operations in the Transvaal until the cessation of hostilities on 31 May 1902.
He was the Chief Instructor of Musketry at 2 Army Musketry School and went to France as a Major from Oct 1916 where he was attached to the General Staff. From March to June 1991 he was the Commandant of the Infantry School in France and the Rhine Army with the temporary rank of Lt Colonel. He was MID LG 18.12.1917 and awarded the OBE in LG 2.1.1919.
According to the 1939 Register he was a Retired Army Officer living at 23 East Avenue, Bournemouth, Hampshire. He was also an ARP Warden
Tudor died on 18 May 1983 in Bournemouth, Hampshire at the age of 93.
