John F Langstaff was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, USA. \Enlisting on 3 April 1942, he served as a Private 1st Class with the 180th Infantry and was deployed as a Truck Driver, Switchboard operator and Linesman (In the field) at various times. Leaving the USA on 8 June 1943 he arrived in the African theatre on 22 June of that year whereafter he was posted to the Italian theatre, arriving there on 10 July 1943. He was Wounded in Action - shrapnel wound to left leg - at Anzio on 10 June 1944 and was awarded the Purple Heart as a result.
He arrived back in the US on 1 September 1944 and was admitted to Moore General Hospital in Swannanoa, North Carolina for further treatment. Other awards he received were the Bronze Star (twice), the Combat Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Ribbon and the Lapel Discharge Button

The European–African–Middle Eastern Campaign Medal was a military award of the United States Armed Forces which was first created on November 6, 1942, by Executive Order 9265 [1][2] issued by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The medal was intended to recognize those military service members who had performed military duty in the European Theater (to include North Africa and the Middle East) during the years of the Second World War.
Sold with some research including his Honorable Discharge Form, several original photos of the recipient and a card from his widow expressing her gratitude that the purchaser of his medals had shown an interest in him. Medals are in good condition unless otherwise indicated.
