George Charles William Puttick was born in Croydon in 1889. He served with the 1/4 Bn Royal West Surrey Regt in India and, post-war, in 1919 on the North west Frontier in Afghanistan attached to the 2nd Divisional Supply Coy (Supply and Transport Corps).
The 1/4 Battalion, Royal West Surrey’s was formed in Croydon in August as part of the Surrey Brigade, Home Counties Division. On 29 October 1914 they were posted to India, remaining there throughout the war. The Division was broken up on arrival in Bombay. In December 1914 – January 1915 they were with the Secunderabad Brigade, 9th (Secunderabad) Division and, from January to April 1915 in the Lucknow Brigade, 8th (Lucknow) Division. They transferred, in April, to Allahabad Brigade in same Division. January 1916 to Peshawar Brigade then Nowshera Brigade in 1st (Peshawar) Division. Left March 1917.
According to the 1939 Register he was a Valet living at 2 Filmer House, Fulham, London.
He died in London in 1950.
