War Medal 1939-45 (298854 G. J. VAN DEN BERG); Africa Service Medal (298854 G. J. VAN DEN BERG); Service Medal of the Order of St John (6411. G. J. VAN DER BERG. STH. AFRICA. S.J.A.B. 1949.)

Gabriel Jacobus van den Berg was born in 1899 and served as a Sergeant in the South African Medical Corps in WWII.

Employed by the South Africa Railways in Bloemfontein, he was an active member of the Bloemfontein Railway Ambulance Division, something he also alluded to on his attestation papers. He did not see operational service having been categorised, medically, as "C3" - a result of being deaf in one ear and having a hammer toe on his right foot.

He passed away in 1964

Medals are in good condition unless indicated otherwise. Sold with some research. Note the "DER" on the St John Amb Medal as opposed to the "DEN" on all other named medals.
