Edward William Welch was born in Portsmouth in 1891 (some records suggest 1892). He served with the 6th Hampshire Regiment in WWI and was awarded the Territorial Forces war Medal whilst with them. He was demobbed on 8 April 1919.
According to the 1939 Register he was living at 3 Mayfair Road, Portsmouth and was a Storehouse Clerk in the Army Ordnance Depot. He continued on in this capacity and was a Skilled Labourer with the Command Ordnance Depot, War Office, Portsmouth when he was awarded the Imperial Service Medal per LG 29 March 1957.
He died in Portsmouth in 1977
