1939-45 Star; Africa Star; Defence Medal; War Medal 1939-45; Africa General Service Medal clasp Kenya (4855923 (CHIEF OFFICER. W.A. BRADLEY.)) - all medals have been engraved "4855923 CSM BRADLEY WA - CMP" - the AGS has had the number "4855923" added as a prefix. The naming is otherwise correct.
Walter Albert Bradley was born in Mansfield, Nottingham in 1912. He attested for service with the 14th/20th Hussars in 1931 and, just after WWII broke out, transferred to the Corps of Military Police in December 1939.
His O.C. remarked that his conduct weas Exemplary and that, "During the period this Warrant Officer has served in the Company under my command he has shewn himself to be an extremely valuable administrator. He is sober, honest and trustworthy, and a keen disciplinarian. He is well respected by all ranks."
Having served in North Africa and the Middle East he was discharged to the Reserve on 12 February 1945. He later moved to Kenya where he participated in the suppression of the Mau Mau Rebellion which occasioned the death of many European settlers.
His WWII medals were posted to him on 25 January 1949 at 107 Leinster Road, Filwood Park, Knowle, Bristol.
He died in Barnstaple, Devon in 1997
