Kenneth Hardwick was born on 27 July 1916 whilst his parents were living at 3 Eyre Street, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Having worked for the Bryan Donkin Works, he enlisted with the Royal Signals in 1935 and had advanced to Drill Instructor by the time WWII broke out. A Newspaper article in the Derbyshire Times of 23 January 1942 highlighted the fact that he and his two brothers were all in uniform "doing their bit" for the war.

He was awarded the 1953 Coronation Medal as a Warrant Officer with the Royal Signals.

A Regular Army man he next saw service in Korea with the Royal Signals and served in the Malaya crisis as well. He was awarded his Long Service & Good Conduct Medal on 3 October 1953 and was deployed to Singapore where he died of disease on 8 June 1955 and is buried in the Kranji Military Cemetery there.
