Jenkin Thomas attested for the Royal Artillery at Pontypridd in 1932. Having been placed on the Reserve in 1938 he was recalled for WWI, serving with 13 & 87 Anti Tank Regt in North Africa.
13 Anti-Tank Regiment RA was formed by the conversion of 13 Field Brigade RA with four batteries in May 1938. The Regiment moved to North Africa in June 1942. It served in the Middle East and Italy in various Army Groups RA and under 5th and 10th Indian Divisions. In April 1947 13 Anti-Tank Regiment RA was re-designated 20 Anti-Tank Regiment RA.
87 Anti-Tank Regiment RA (TA) was converted from 7th Battalion The Devonshire Regiment in November 1941 with four batteries. The Regiment went into suspended animation in June 1944. 87 Anti-Tank Regiment RA (TA) was reconstituted as 396 (Devon) Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment RA (TA) in January 1947.
He transferred to the Royal Army Ordnance Corps in 1950 and was awarded the Long Service & Good Conduct Medal on 5 August 1951.
He was awarded the 1953 Coronation Medal (not with the group) as a Staff Quartermaster Sergeant with the RAOC and took his discharge from them in 1955.
