Miniature Medal

First established in 1874, there have been a number of changes to the medal, primarily being a change in the name of the organisation, although the Lions and Unicorns were added in 1888.

Bars to the medal were authorised in 1962 although only two have been awarded, in gold.

The ribbon was originally black with an embroidered eight pointed cross, this changed to plain black watered silk in 1888. In 1950 the ribbon changed to black with white inner and red outer stripes, separated by a black line. In 1954 the separating black lines were removed and the current ribbon is supplied with the miniature.

The medal is authorised for wear on the right breast.
