Charles Aish was born in North Petherton near Bridgwater, Somerset on 23 October 1879. He enlisted with the 1st Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment on 5 October 1897, seeing service with them in the Anglo Boer War. He was taken Prisoner of War at Farquhars Farm just outside Ladysmith on 30 October 1899 (also known as the Battle of Nicholson's Nek) and was interned in the Nooitgedacht Camp in the ZAR (Transvaal) until being liberated at the end of June 1900.

He was discharged to the Army Reserve in 1907. By 1911 he was a Grocer living in the High St, Nailsea Nr Bristol and, according to the 1939 Register, he was a Postman living at Long Croft, Long Ashton.

He died on 26 March 1957 at Weston Super Mare, Somerset, England.
