Father: Edwin William Manton was born in Colwall, Herefordshire in 1870. He attested for service with the 16th Company, Imperial Yeomanry (Worcestershire) in the Anglo Boer War seeing extensive service with them in South Africa. Although papers for him don't appear to have survived it is probable that he attested on the same day as his brother, William Keen Manton - on 24 January 1901. In a Statement as to Disability he claimed that service in Belgium had affected his Lungs and Heart from a Gas attack on 24 July 1917. He was treated at a C.C.S. and 134 General Hospital. He was employed by James Cycle of Birmingham at the time he attested. The 1939 Register shows that he was living at 6 Golf Terrace in Malvern and was a Labourer at a Stone Quarry. He saw service i France & Germany in WWII.
