Harry William Thurlow was born in Thornham Parva, Suffolk on 14 March 1879. He enlisted with the Border Regiment on 17 December 1895 and served in the Anglo Boer War in South Africa from 30.1.1900 until 28.9.1902. He was in the Tugela Heights engagements and other battles leading up to the Relief of Ladysmith on 1 March 1900. He was posted to the Reserve on his return to England and joined H Division of the Metropolitan Police at New Scotland Yard on 16 March 1903.

He was later transferred to R (Greenwich) Division but resigned after 6 years 63 days service, on 22 May 1909 at the age of 30. He died in Croydon in 1915, not long after the birth of his namesake and son, Harry William Thurlow, on 13 May 1914. Fortunately he didn't live to see the death of his son in WWII on 23 November 1944.

Medals are in good condition unless indicated otherwise. He was not eligible for any police medals. Sold with some research including both army and police service papers. Please note the difference in the last digit of the number - they are, however, to the same man.
