Matthew McKenzie Massie was born in 1908 in St Clements, Aberdeenshire. A Tinsmith he attested with the Royal Tank Corps for 4 years at the age of 17 on 16.1.1925. Initially discharged on 15.1.1933 he continued his service until transferring to the Royal Army Medical Corps on 8.4.1939 with whom he saw service in France where he was captured on 12.6.1940 at St Valery in the Battle for France. He was interred at Stalag 171 with PoW number 14864 and was repatriated to Greece on 17 November 1943. 

Awarded EM 1946.

He died in April 2005 at the age of 97.
